Returns Policy

This returns policy applies to merchandise purchased at El Corral Bookstore and its Catalog Store (Internet, phone, and mail orders) and Cal Poly Print & Copy, but excludes Cal Poly Downtown and Textbooks & Courseware. Sales Receipt: Always save the sales receipt! We are not obligated to accept a return without the sales receipt.

Returnable: With the original sales receipt and within 30 days of purchase, you may return merchandise in original resaleable condition.

Original Resaleable Condition: Merchandise is not in original resaleable condition if damaged, marked, soiled, unpackaged, unwrapped, or visibly used. Merchandise is still unpackaged or unwrapped if re-packaged or re-wrapped. We accept the return of unpackaged or unwrapped merchandise at our discretion.

Not Returnable: Book notes (e.g., Cliffs Notes), Cal Poly Catalog, calculators and other electronics, clearance merchandise, computers and peripherals, Cal Poly Gift Card, magazines, merchandise labeled as non-returnable, software in opened packaging, special orders, study aids (e.g, Quick Charts, Vis-Ed cards), subject guides (e.g., Schaum’s Outlines), and test tutors (e.g., SAT and GSAT).

Defective Merchandise: If defective merchandise is otherwise eligible for return, you choose an exchange or a refund. If defective merchandise is otherwise ineligible for return, we choose to exchange or to refund. A manufacturer’s warranty may provide for repair or replacement instead of our exchange or refund. Your sales receipt is required. If you cannot find the sales receipt, please contact us before you attempt a return.

Method of Refund: We refund the same way you paid. If you paid with a credit card, for example, we credit the refund to the same credit card account. If we cannot credit that account, we offer you store credit in the form of a Cal Poly Gift Card. If a purchase is ineligible for a refund, we might accept its return for store credit in the form of a Cal Poly Gift Card.

Catalog Store Purchases (Internet, Phone, & Mail Orders): Purchases from the Catalog Store may be returned to the Catalog Store (on-line) or at El Corral Bookstore (in-store). To return on-line, contact the Catalog Store for instructions. On-line returns do not require the sales receipt. The Catalog Store may extend the deadline for the on-line return of an on-line purchase. To return in-store without the sales receipt, contact the Catalog Store for assistance.

Purchases from Other Locations: Because the sales tax rate is not the same for the City and County of San Luis Obispo, we prefer that purchases from Cal Poly Downtown be returned to that store. The bookstore cannot accept returns of Cal Poly Print & Copy's products. If you are in doubt, please contact Customer Service before you come to the bookstore with your return.
